DIVINA COMEDIA POSTER
Project type
Poster Design
Date
2022
Location
Toronto
The poster design, inspired by Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy," pays homage to the compelling themes of heaven, purgatory, and inferno portrayed in this timeless literary masterpiece. Referencing vintage illustrations from Gustave Doré's "Le Purgatoire [et le Paradis] de Dante Alighieri," published in 1868, I aimed to infuse the poster with a timeless essence reminiscent of the original work.
Using a serif display font, I strategically integrated keywords like "purgatory," "inferno," and "paradise" to intricately structure the narrative within the poster, mirroring Dante's profound journey. Fragments of the original text from "The Divine Comedy" are thoughtfully interwoven into the design, lending depth and authenticity to the visual storytelling.
The poster is designed in three distinct color versions, each symbolizing heaven, purgatory, and inferno, adding a meta-symbolism that resonates with the themes of Dante's narrative. This multi-color approach aims to imbue the design with additional layers of meaning, inviting viewers to explore the complexities and contrasts inherent in the human experience as depicted in "The Divine Comedy."
